Five Finger Death Punch Finish New Album, Zoltan Bathory Says Bands Like His & Disturbed Are Essential To Metal’s Growth

Five Finger Death Punch have officially completed work on their tenth studio album, with vocalist Ivan Moody confirming the milestone on social media this week.

Moody shared the news on May 29, revealing that recording is finished and marking the occasion in a much different way than he would have in years past.

“ALBUM X DONE. I used to ‘celebrate’ by drinking myself into oblivion. Nowadays, I prefer to celebrate with @northshoreburger.”

The upcoming album is expected to arrive later this year and follows the release of the band’s latest single, “Eye Of The Storm,” which debuted earlier this month.

New Album Said To Revisit The Band’s Earlier Sound

Speaking with 93X, guitarist Zoltan Bathory said the new material leans closer to the aggression found on Five Finger Death Punch’s earliest releases.

According to Bathory, the band intentionally shifted the sonic balance of the record, placing more emphasis on guitars while slightly pulling back on vocals and drums.

“This album is a little bit of a reach back to the first three. The first three albums were a little bit more aggro.”

While he described “Eye Of The Storm” as a strong representation of the album’s direction, Bathory noted that even heavier material is still waiting to be heard.

He also emphasized the importance of variety within an album, explaining that Five Finger Death Punch continue to balance heavy tracks, mid-tempo songs, and more melodic moments rather than focusing on a single tone throughout a release.

Bathory Defends Radio-Friendly Metal And Genre Growth

During the interview, Bathory also addressed criticism surrounding mainstream-friendly metal acts, arguing that bands capable of crossing into radio audiences play an important role in the genre’s continued growth.

Using Disturbed as an example alongside Five Finger Death Punch, Bathory said accessibility helps introduce new listeners to heavy music.

“If you want your community to be healthy and big and grow, you’re gonna need bands like Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, bands like us, that kind of coast in between.”

He pointed to the strong reception of “Eye Of The Storm” on radio as evidence that audiences remain open to heavier music in mainstream spaces.

“Formulaic” Criticism Doesn’t Concern Him

Bathory also pushed back against long-running criticism that established bands tend to repeat themselves across albums.

Comparing music fandom to wine or craft beer appreciation, he suggested that dedicated fans hear nuance and progression that casual listeners often miss.

He cited acts like Iron Maiden and AC/DC as examples of bands whose evolution is frequently misunderstood from the outside.

“If you’re a fan of this band, then you definitely see the progression. If you’re a casual listener, then I would understand why you think it’s the same thing.”

Bathory added that each Five Finger Death Punch album is built around a balance of signature tracks, heavier cuts, and more experimental moments, keeping the band’s identity intact while still allowing room to evolve.

With recording now complete, more details on the band’s tenth studio album are expected soon.
