A new heavy music supergroup has emerged with the formation of Gatta Morta, a band featuring members and alumni of Melvins, Butthole Surfers, Big Business, and Mr. Phylzzz.
The lineup includes:
- Buzz “King Buzzo” Osborne (Melvins) – Guitar/Vocals
- Clinton Jacob (Mr. Phylzzz) – Guitar/Vocals
- Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers, Melvins) – Bass/Vocals
- Coady Willis (Big Business, Melvins) – Drums/Vocals
Without any advance notice, the group released its debut EP, ‘Burn Witch Burn’, on August 4th through Amphetamine Reptile Records. The four-song effort is currently available on CD, while a vinyl edition is planned for a later date. Fans can also get an early taste of the release with the newly unveiled visualizer for “Black Hall,” though the remainder of the EP has yet to hit streaming platforms.
Osborne explained how the project came together after an idea sparked while on tour last year.
“It’s always a good time for the world to embrace a new heavy/weird band. I had the idea for Gatta Morta while touring last fall. I realized I needed to start a band with these three. Seemed like a no brainer. Solidly weird rock music that needs to happen.”
Pinkus also shared his excitement about the collaboration.
“It’s been way too long since I got to write a heavy album from scratch with such high caliber players with such complimentary styles… and we’re just cat scratching the surface of what we got goin’ on!”
Jacob recalled being honored to receive the invitation after previously working with Osborne.
“I just had this feeling that one day we would work together. I became friends with Buzz over the past few years doing shows together and having him play guitar on a Mr. Phylzzz song. When I was asked to be a part of Gatta Morta, I was speechless, but I was 100% ready for it.”
The track listing for ‘Burn Witch Burn’ is as follows:
01 – “Taco Bellboy”
02 – “Victims Of The Universe”
03 – “Black Hall”
04 – “Clear Smoke”
