Cybergrind innovators Genghis Tron have released a new single titled “Born Prey,” marking the second preview from their upcoming album ‘Signal Fire’.
The record is set for release on June 12th via Relapse Records, and follows their 2021 return ‘Dream Weapon’, which leaned heavily into atmospheric and hypnotic textures. This time around, the band say they’re revisiting a more aggressive, unpredictable edge.
“Born Prey” is also being framed as a stylistic throwback to their earlier era, with the band highlighting it as their first major “ripper” in years while still pushing into new structural territory.
The group commented on the track’s direction, stating:
“We’re proud to share our first true ripper since ‘Board Up The House’ (2008). We still love making bonkers-ass abrasive music, and after ‘Dream Weapon’ (2021)—which was very focused on creating a hypnotic and ethereal experience—we couldn’t pass up a second opportunity to let Nick Yacyshyn let loose on the drums and shred some blasts.
But that’s just the first 60 seconds! Then the song takes a left turn and goes somewhere completely different, and by the time you get to the end, you’ll have no idea how you got there. It’s a good window into ‘Signal Fire,’ which to our ears is the most varied and exploratory album we’ve ever made.”
With “Born Prey” showcasing abrupt shifts in intensity and structure, ‘Signal Fire’ is shaping up to be one of the band’s most experimental releases yet.
