Ghost’s Cover Of Pet Shop Boys’ “It’s A Sin” Is Now Officially Streaming

Ghost have officially made their 2018 cover of the Pet Shop Boys’ classic song “It’s A Sin” available on streaming platforms.

Originally recorded as a bonus track for the band’s fourth studio album ‘Prequelle’, the cover of the 1987 synth-pop hit has resurfaced digitally in what appears to be a bit of long-overdue housekeeping. However, as with most things in the Ghost universe, the release also comes with a storyline explanation rooted firmly in the band’s ongoing lore.

Within the group’s canon, the sudden availability of “It’s A Sin” is attributed to a loophole exploited by former frontman Frater Imperator. Following the rise of the band’s current frontpersona, Papa V Perpetua, Frater Imperator was pushed into an administrative role within the Ghost clergy—a demotion that apparently didn’t prevent him from meddling behind the scenes.

To accompany the streaming release, Ghost have also shared a stylized, retro-themed lyric video that leans into the track’s original era while maintaining the band’s theatrical aesthetic.

When ‘Prequelle’ was released in 2018, “It’s A Sin” appeared alongside another bonus cover: Leonard Cohen’s “Avalanche.” Unlike the Pet Shop Boys rendition, that track still remains unavailable on major streaming services.

Whether this marks the beginning of more archival Ghost material being rolled out digitally remains to be seen, but for now, fans can finally stream one of the band’s most talked-about covers without hunting down a physical release.
