Ghost’s Tobias Forge Says He Plans To Step Away From Touring After ‘Skeletour’

Ghost frontman Tobias Forge has revealed that he intends to take a step back from performing live once the band wraps up its current touring cycle.

Speaking with Full Metal Jackie, Forge explained that after years of near-constant touring, he feels it’s time to prioritize his family life. The band is currently finishing up the North American leg of their ‘Skeletour,’ which launched in the UK last year in support of their latest album, Skeletá.

According to Forge, once this run concludes, he plans to pause live performances for the foreseeable future in order to spend more time at home.

“I’ve had two kids waiting at home with my wife for 15 years, and maybe that says something about me that it wasn’t a pushing enough factor during those years. Believe me, I felt bad, but I’ve definitely come to a point where I feel, physically and mentally, I need to be home. They’re 17; they’re not gonna be around for an eon.”

His latest comments echo what he recently told Global News, where he also shut down speculation about a potential companion EP following Skeletá. Historically, the band has released EPs alongside or shortly after full-length albums, but that tradition appears to be on hold.

**“There is no EP coming. Besides the tour that we’re doing now, we have nothing else planned. So the future is right now very open.

I’ve come to a point where I still have ideas, I still have dreams, I still have things that I think we have not achieved, definitely the wish list is still there, but that’s gonna be at some other point.”**

Forge also noted that stepping away from touring doesn’t mean stepping away from creativity. In fact, he has several projects already in motion outside of Ghost.

“The only way for me to come up with a new idea and get some new inspiration is to just step away. It is as simple as that. But it doesn’t mean that I’m not doing anything. I have two film projects that I’m working on.

Just before I left for the tour, I was recording another album with another thing. So I have tons of stuff lined up the coming years. And also hobbies that I have put aside because for the last 15 years Ghost has been force majeure.”

The North American leg of the ‘Skeletour’ kicked off in Orlando, FL and saw several disruptions along the way. The band was forced to cancel scheduled performances in Knoxville, Charlotte, and Greenville after states of emergency were declared in parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The run is set to conclude tonight, February 23, with a performance at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA.

Whether this marks a temporary pause or a longer hiatus from touring remains to be seen, but for now, Forge appears focused on rebalancing his life after 15 years of relentless momentum.
