Rochester, NY alternative metal trio Glasswaves have announced their debut full-length, ‘while(True)’, which is headed for an October 23rd release through SharpTone Records.
Alongside the album news, the band have unveiled a new video for “Swarm.ING_”, the third track from the concept-driven record to be previewed so far. The Andrew Curtin-directed clip can be found below.
Vocalist Noah Rich offered some insight into the track:
“This song is about the feeling of something taking over your mind and feeding off of you, only to realize you are the thing that’s been consuming you. When this one started it felt like we tapped into a new, almost nu-metal direction for us, while still keeping that core Glasswaves sound.”
The larger narrative behind ‘while(True)’ centers on Liminal-Neuro, a medical technology company conducting experimental treatments in an effort to better understand trauma, addiction and obsession. The company’s experiments involve a drug called “Neuro Veil,” ultimately leading to the appearance of an ancient entity known as “The Veil.”
Rich described the album as the band’s most personal and ambitious work to date:
“‘while(True)’ is our most ambitious and personal release yet. Through the story of a failing medical technology company experimenting with dream manipulation, we explore themes of trauma, addiction, perception, and the unseen forces that shape the way we think. More than anything, this album represents our growth as writers. We challenged ourselves creatively, stopped following expectations, and made the record we truly wanted to make. We can’t wait for people to experience the world of ‘while(True)’ and find their own meaning within it.”
According to the album’s accompanying press release, Liminal-Neuro’s attempts to manipulate the minds of its test subjects eventually summon The Veil, a radiant female entity that embodies the deepest desires of those it encounters. The entity exploits those desires and drives its victims toward increasingly horrific behavior.
Guitarist Owen Miller further explained how the story connects to broader themes of selfishness and inaction:
“People will see things happening and choose not to do anything, because it’s easier than taking action. Developments like A.I. data centers deplete natural resources, but nobody seems to care. ‘The Veil’ represents this sort of selfishness. Even though the company Liminal Neuro promises to get rid of your fears and worries and empower you to become the person you want to be, the doctors are merely using everyone just to find ‘The Veil.’”
‘while(True)’ will feature the following 12 tracks:
- 01 – “FALSE_glow:”
