Godsmack Plan New Album As Sully Erna And Dorothy Go Public With Relationship

It appears Godsmack are no longer finished making new music. After previously stating that 2023’s ‘Lighting Up The Sky’ would serve as the band’s final studio album, frontman Sully Erna has now confirmed a new record is back on the table.

The multi-platinum hard rock band entered a new era in 2025 after the departures of longtime guitarist Tony Rombola and drummer Shannon Larkin. Earlier this month, Erna revealed the group’s refreshed touring lineup, adding drummer Wade Murff and guitarist Sam Koltun.

Speaking recently with Billboard, Erna said fresh material is now in the works.

“Definitely there’s gonna be a new record — I just don’t know when it’s coming. We’ll probably get some new music out by early ’27, I suppose. I’m starting to noodle (on new songs), but it’s a little too soon to say.”

Erna also explained that he and bassist Robbie Merrill considered ending the band before deciding to keep moving forward.

“Me and Robbie sat down and had a long talk. We contemplated kind of retiring the band…but we were just like, ‘We don’t really want to stop yet. We feel like we have some gas in the tank. We love what we do.’”

“So we’re like, ‘Let’s run this thing and see how it feels.’”

“Who knows; we might get surprised again and have Godsmack 2.0 for the next 10 years running, the second chapter in my life.”

At the same time, Erna’s personal life has also made headlines after Dorothy publicly confirmed the pair are in a relationship. During a recent appearance on Trunk Nation, she spoke warmly about the singer.

“I love this man. He’s such a good, solid man. I feel safe with him.”

“We had a wonderful friendship for months and months. I’ve never laughed so much in my life. My face hurts.”

Dorothy later added on Instagram Stories:

“I highly recommend falling in love with your best friend, 10/10.”

The couple’s relationship news arrives just ahead of their upcoming collaborative single “Set Me Free”.

Godsmack and Dorothy will also hit the road together later this year on a major North American run featuring Stone Temple Pilots on many dates, followed by additional international appearances.
