The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra is set to pay tribute to the architects of melodic death metal with two special concerts titled ‘The Gothenburg Sound’ this December.
The performances will celebrate the music of In Flames, At The Gates, and Dark Tranquillity — three legendary Gothenburg-born acts whose output in the 1990s and beyond helped shape the signature sound of Swedish melodic death metal.
Full orchestral interpretations of fan-favorite songs from all three bands will be performed across two nights at Gothenburg Concert Hall on December 04th and December 05th.
Dark Tranquillity shared the following statement regarding the honor:
“It’s a great honor to finally announce that the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra will perform a tribute to the ‘Gothenburg Sound’.”
“This has been in the works for quite some time, and hearing Dark Tranquillity, together with songs from At the Gates and In Flames, translated for a full orchestra is something we never could have imagined when this all began.”
“GSO is Sweden’s national orchestra and one of Europe’s premier orchestras, so to be recognized like this by our hometown is truly special.”
“Join us for this unique milestone in our journey on December 4 and 5. This is a big deal!”
For longtime fans of the genre, the event stands as a rare large-scale recognition of one of heavy music’s most influential regional movements.
