Greyson Nekrutman continues to prove why he’s one of the most exciting young drummers in modern metal. At just 22 years old, the rising percussionist has already performed with Suicidal Tendencies and currently sits behind the kit for Brazilian metal legends Sepultura as they make their way through their farewell tour.
Before stepping into the world of heavy music full-time, Nekrutman made waves in the drumming community for his jaw-dropping take on the jazz classic “Caravan”, performed for Drumeo. That performance, which demonstrated both his technical brilliance and genre-spanning versatility, helped earn him recognition from some of the best in the game—including Tool‘s very own Danny Carey.
During Sepultura’s March 30th appearance at Lollapalooza Brazil in São Paulo, Carey showed his admiration firsthand by watching Nekrutman’s set from directly behind his drum kit. Nekrutman later shared footage of the surreal moment, capturing the mutual respect between the two drummers.
As a possible nod to that experience, Nekrutman recently tackled Carey’s thunderous drumming on the title track from Tool’s 10,000 Days. You can check out his run-through of one of the song’s more intricate sections below.
