Holding Absence have premiered an anime-inspired music video for their latest single “Lucid Love”, continuing the rollout for their upcoming studio album Modern Life Is Lonely.
The Welsh post-hardcore band are set to release the record on August 28th via Sumerian Records, marking a new chapter following their recent label move. “Lucid Love” serves as the third preview of the album, highlighting a more experimental direction that blends the band’s core sound with hyperpop influences.
Frontman Lucas Woodland described the track as the band’s most ambitious step into that territory yet, while also explaining the lyrical inspiration behind it.
“’Lucid Love’ is our most extreme foray into hyperpop yet. We had an absolute blast experimenting with new sonic textures and ideas while working to marry them to the already existing HA sound, and we’re so pleased with the outcome.
Lyrically, the song is about a long-distance relationship where the two of you can only meet in your dreams. I really leaned into that imagery, treating the dreamland almost as a portal between you. This song takes a newer, more candid and modern approach to lyrics than I’m used to, while still aiming for something timeless and relatable.”
Visually, the newly released video leans into anime-inspired aesthetics, reinforcing the dreamlike themes embedded throughout the track.
Modern Life Is Lonely arrives August 28th via Sumerian Records.
