ENSTRIFE, a progressive metal band from Ridgewood, New York, has been redefining the genre since 2019. This five-piece group stands out by blending technical, heavy compositions with audacious melodic experimentation. What truly sets them apart is their innovative use of a saxophone, played by frontwoman Layla Yvonne, whose commanding vocals and virtuosic saxophone work create a unique sonic signature.
Each member of ENSTRIFE is an essential part of the band’s definitive sound: Layla Yvonne (Vocals & Saxophone) is the artistic heartbeat; Jeffrey Hinz (Rhythm Guitar & Backing Vocals) provides the driving, relentless energy; Ali Cone II (Lead Guitar) injects a unique blend of melodic finesse and crushing heaviness; William Manser (Drums) is the rhythmic foundation with his precise and explosive drumming; and Peter Getzoni (Bass & Backing Vocals) expertly holds down the low end.
The band’s journey began with a powerful act of defiance during the pandemic. In place of live shows, they created IN MEDIAS RES, a live EP released exclusively as a physical-only offering. This was a direct statement against the digital music industry, emphasizing their commitment to creating something “real, raw, imperfect and alive.” This approach continued with their debut album, Messiah Marionette, an eight-track masterwork that solidified their reputation as a formidable force. Self-engineered by the band and co-produced with Louis Padilla, the album’s raw, visceral energy made a deeply personal and powerful statement about control and rebellion.
With momentum from their debut, ENSTRIFE is relentlessly touring and preparing for a follow-up full-length record and another live album, IN MEDIAS RES II. Known for their electrifying and immersive live performances, ENSTRIFE is poised to leave a lasting mark on the genre.
