Named after the divine spirit-like entities of Japanese folklore, Mizaki burst out from the fringes of the Houston metal scene in 2020. Founded by Omar Rios (drums/lead vocals) and John Koepke (lead guitar) before recruiting west Texas transplant Bass Hishmeh (bass guitar), the trio spent its first year and a half as a band grinding out their set list before igniting the stage and exciting the crowds in their hometown. Combining the full bore precision of industrialized nu-metal, with the old-school ethos of classic rock, and diy mentality of hardcore punk, Mizaki can only be described as a familiar dose of something you’ve never seen or heard of before. Armed with a brand new EP under their belt, and its successor not far behind, Mizaki is hungry for more and determined to take the leap from local band to world renowned heavy metal heroes.
