    Hot Mulligan vocalist Tades Sanville stirred social media conversation this week with a forceful message shared to his Instagram Stories addressing people who express support for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Sanville’s post left little ambiguity about his views, underscoring that many artists within the punk, emo, and alternative scenes reject what they see as fascism, bigotry, or hate.

    In the full statement Sanville wrote:

    “A lot of people follow this account and I hardly use it. Some of these people who follow this account might support ICE. I’d encourage you, if you are one of those people, to build a small fire in your living room and lay on top of it. This way you can familiarize yourself with the hell you deserve and will someday call home. F*** you nazi scum. You are undeserving of art.”

    The language of the message was stark and confrontational, and it quickly circulated among fans and scene observers. While Sanville’s comments were directed at supporters of ICE, the broader reception among followers was mixed, with some praising his stance and others criticizing the vitriolic imagery used.

      Art is about freedom, liberation, what YOU as the ARTIST sees, feels, thinks, hears, whatever. That very statement, to say that someone is undeserving of art, is quite absurd and whether or not they realize it…. it’s a rather moronic thing to say…

      Without art, we have no outlet to let out what we are feeling in the absolute HEALTHIEST of ways. Without that outlet, we have no choice but to act…

      I would argue that the worst of mankind NEED art more than anyone else. 🤷‍♂️

        Charlie Gunn if you know anything about the history of art within fascism, you wouldn’t have made this comment. But instead of being hostile towards you, I’ll point you to a neat video on the subject by a Youtuber named Jacob Geller, the video is called “Who is afraid of Red, yellow and Blue?” And it dives into great detail about how fascists view art, and more importantly, how they scapegoat art they don’t like as being “degenerate” art and therefore unworthy of existence, but every piece of “degenerate” art would have one thing in common, that being they were made by an antifascist.

      The only people that know who this band is are mostly weman in their 20’s and 30’s that refer to each other as “girlie” and their equally feminine male counterparts. You can observe this with all the comments asking “who?” While the response to those comments are answered by the people I described in my opening statement.
