A local advocacy page has questioned the lyrical content of Motionless In White following the Pennsylvania metalcore band’s recent performance at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, TX, a suburb located just north of Houston.
The Woodlands Advocate highlighted several lines from the band’s 2022 track “Slaughterhouse,” including references to “the consequence of opulence,” “oppress the oppressors,” and “our pound of flesh.” The song takes aim at themes including wealth, inequality, corporate power and social frustration.
The advocacy page then asked its followers:
“Is this just metalcore theatrics… or a soundtrack for the Marxist revolution?”
The post also questioned how the song’s themes might be received in The Woodlands, an affluent Houston-area community where the performance took place.
“Slaughterhouse” is one of several Motionless In White songs that incorporate confrontational social and political themes into the band’s theatrical metalcore sound.
