A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to support Hunter Young, known for his work with Moodring and PSYCHO-FRAME, as he continues to deal with serious and debilitating health issues.
Young previously opened up about his deteriorating health and uncertain living situation, revealing that he has been battling myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), Dysautonomia, and small fiber neuropathy.
The newly launched GoFundMe campaign is seeking to raise $20,000 to help cover Young’s immediate medical and living expenses as he attempts to return to Florida, where he hopes to be closer to friends and family and begin pursuing additional treatment.
According to the fundraiser, Young was diagnosed approximately three years ago, but his condition has continued to worsen significantly. His health has reportedly reached the point where he requires full-time care, is unable to work and spends much of his time in complete silence and darkness due to the severity of his symptoms.
The campaign also states that Young has lost approximately 60 pounds since July due to difficulties eating and digesting food.
“ME/CFS has led to Hunter needing full time care (which he currently does not have) and being unable to work, especially these last few months, and he needs to secure housing.”
Young has reportedly been evaluated by multiple specialists and has been recommended IVIG (Intravenous Immunoglobulin) as a potential treatment for the constant burning associated with his small fiber neuropathy. However, the fundraiser says the treatment could cost approximately $100,000 per year, with individual treatments averaging around $10,000, due in part to his current lack of insurance coverage.
The immediate goal is to provide Young with enough financial stability to relocate to Florida, secure housing, access the specialists he needs and begin treatment while pursuing available medical assistance programs.
“Hunter is trying to return to Florida to be closer to his friends and family, find an apartment, and begin treatment as soon as possible.”
The organizers say Young could run out of money within the next two to three months when accounting for treatment, medication and living expenses, making the fundraiser an effort to give him some breathing room while he works toward getting the care he needs.
“At the very least it buys him some time to get the rest he has been quite literally begging for.”
Those wishing to support Hunter Young can contribute through the campaign established on his behalf.
