Details Emerge In Murder Of Ex-Lostprophets Vocalist Ian Watkins Amid Ongoing UK Trial

New details have surfaced in the ongoing murder trial surrounding the 2025 prison killing of former Lostprophets vocalist Ian Watkins.

According to reports from the BBC, prosecutors allege that Watkins was fatally stabbed inside his cell at HMP Wakefield prison on October 11th, 2025, while serving a 29-year prison sentence for multiple child sex offenses. Watkins had been incarcerated since his 2013 conviction.

The prosecution claims that fellow inmate Rashid Gedel, 25, entered Watkins’ unlocked cell during the morning hours and stabbed him multiple times in the head and neck using an improvised weapon. Authorities further allege that another inmate, Samuel Dodsworth, 44, later helped dispose of the weapon following the attack.

Both men have pleaded not guilty.

During proceedings this week, prosecutors stated that CCTV footage allegedly captured Gedel entering Watkins’ cell for approximately 20 seconds before exiting and passing an item to Dodsworth. Watkins reportedly emerged from the cell moments later suffering severe neck injuries. Despite emergency response efforts, paramedics were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Investigators also told the court that Watkins allegedly received threatening notes the day before the attack. Those messages reportedly accused him of helping have another prisoner removed from the wing and demanded money while threatening violence against him.

Additional testimony claimed Gedel had recently been transferred into the same prison wing housing Watkins and Dodsworth shortly before the killing occurred.

Authorities allege later surveillance footage showed Dodsworth discarding an object into a bin, where police later recovered the bloodied weapon believed to have been used in the attack.

Court proceedings also heard that Gedel allegedly made several comments to prison staff following the incident, including:

“If I’ve killed him, you could be talking to someone famous.”

Prosecutors additionally claimed Gedel appeared unusually upbeat following his arrest and had expressed hostility toward what he described as “nonce prisoners” receiving preferential treatment in prison.
