Jay Weinberg Launches New Solo Project With “Sandstone,” Featuring Deafheaven’s George Clarke

Jay Weinberg—best known for his work with Suicidal Tendencies and formerly Slipknot—has officially launched his new self-titled solo project. The debut track, “Sandstone,” features a guest vocal appearance from George Clarke of Deafheaven.

A visualizer for the song is available below. Weinberg recorded the project across multiple sessions in Nashville, TN and Los Angeles, CA, handling drums as expected but also taking on guitar, which he says has long been his primary writing instrument.

The drummer revealed that his forthcoming guest-filled debut EP is planned for early 2026, and that “Sandstone” has been years in the making:

“Oh boy. I’m really excited about it. I’ve been working on this song specifically between six and eight years. Guitar is actually the instrument that I started with… Whenever I sit down to write stuff, it’s typically with a guitar first.

I’ve thrown together different versions of what I would want to do with these songs… and it just kind of started to make sense where I felt comfortable recording all the instruments myself, and then pitching a song here or there to friends of mine.”

On bringing George Clarke into the fold, Weinberg added:

“I’ve always wanted to collaborate with vocalists and create a very low-pressure, ‘Hey, here’s a song’ environment…

With ‘Sandstone,’ I really felt like the music lent itself to what my friend George Clarke could do with his voice. I pitched it to him, and he came in and completely schooled it. It was incredible to watch.”

Weinberg says this track marks the beginning of a new era:

“It’s the first song I’ve ever released under my own name, and it’s the first in a series of collaborations—an EP that I’m hoping to have out in the early part of 2026.”
