Guitarist/vocalist Kevin Quirion has officially stepped away from his role in Floridian death metal legends Deicide after 15 years with the band. In a personal statement recently circulated online, Quirion cited a desire to spend more time with family and take a break from the rigors of touring.
His full message, originally shared on May 18th, reads:
“So after 15 years I decided to leave the band last month. Mainly I’m just done with touring and would like to spend the extra time with my family. I will still be writing songs and have already sent some to Derek Roddy and Sean Baxter to release under the Council Of The Fallen name. There will be no labels or shows, just putting out EPs whenever we feel like it. It was nice meeting a bunch of fans, bands, promoters etc and I wish everyone the best. Got to go now. Look for a job and Roblox with my son…”
Quirion’s exit marks the end of a long chapter with Deicide, one that saw him contribute to the band’s relentless live shows and records during a prolific run. While stepping back from the spotlight, he’s not done musically. He’ll be reviving his project Council Of The Fallen—a band that notably also includes drummer Derek Roddy and bassist Sean Baxter—with plans to independently release new EPs on their own schedule.
No official word from Deicide yet on who will be stepping in to fill Quirion’s role moving forward.
