Texas metalcore outfit Light The Fire have signed with Seek And Strike, marking a new chapter for the band as they prepare to release their upcoming EP, ‘I Won’t Be There To Save You’.
The five-track effort is scheduled to arrive November 20th, with the band introducing the new era through a music video for its lead single “New Villains”.
Light The Fire say the signing coincides with a deliberate shift in their creative approach, moving away from expectations surrounding their previous material and toward a heavier and more aggressive sound.
“We are really excited for this next chapter. It coincided with our desire to abandon what we’ve felt like we needed to be creatively, and just making something we’re excited about. S&S got that completely.”
The band selected “New Villains” as the EP’s opening statement because they feel it captures the direction of the new material, which they describe as their heaviest work to date.
“We chose ‘New Villains’ as our first single because we feel it is a good representation and steppingstone for what this new EP is overall: very heavy and very aggressive. This is the perfect lead single because we feel it represents our new creative direction, as well as encompasses our mindset as a band going forward.”
That change in attitude also extends to the band’s overall approach.
“Our new sound is heavier and we have a much more devil-may-care attitude about what we’re doing. While we are still reasonable people setting healthy boundaries, we do feel like villains compared to who we used to be.”
Light The Fire say ‘I Won’t Be There To Save You’ is darker, less melodic and more aggressive than their previous material while still retaining elements of the sound they’ve established.
“This new EP is probably the heaviest thing we’ve ever done. Collectively, it is very in your face, pissed off, and at times, very dark, while not abandoning the sound we’ve already established. Stylistically, it is just heavier and less melodic.”
The EP was produced and engineered by Dave Alcan of Love Letter, with Lance Prenc of Alpha Wolf, Polaris and Thornhill handling mixing and mastering.
