Limp Bizkit officially kicked off their limited run of shows with Metallica last night, April 26th, at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, ON. The nü-metal heavyweights are one of several bands set to open select dates for Metallica this summer, alongside acts like Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies, and Ice Nine Kills.
While the two bands previously toured together in 2003 as part of the Summer Sanitarium Tour, this latest collaboration sees Limp Bizkit joining for a handful of scattered appearances. Even before hitting the stage with the thrash legends, Limp Bizkit had been paying homage by performing an abridged version of Metallica’s classic “Master Of Puppets” during recent shows.
Guitarist Wes Borland has taken his appreciation a step further, recently sharing a creative take on Metallica’s instrumental track “Orion”. During last night’s performance, Borland offered a more subtle nod to Metallica’s legacy — adorning his guitar with the phrase ‘EET PHO,’ a playful tribute to James Hetfield’s iconic ‘EET FUK’ ESP guitar from the 1980s.
In fan-filmed footage shared online, the homage is easy to miss — a detail even Borland himself seemed surprised was caught, commenting, “how did you even see that in the video?” in response to a fan’s post.
Limp Bizkit’s remaining dates opening for Metallica and Ice Nine Kills are as follows:
05/03 Nashville, TN – Nissan Stadium
05/23 Philadelphia, PA – Lincoln Financial Field
06/06 Tampa, FL – Raymond James Stadium
06/20 Santa Clara, CA – Levi’s Stadium
06/27 Denver, CO – Empower Field at Mile High
If you’re curious, Limp Bizkit‘s setlist for last night ran as follows:
“Take A Look Around”
“Hot Dog” (Metallica‘s “Creeping Death” breakdown)
“Nookie”
“Full Nelson”
“My Generation”
“Master Of Puppets” (partial Metallica cover)
“Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)”
