Matt Cameron returned to the stage on October 3 to perform music from Soundgarden, joined by an all-star lineup of musicians during Tom Morello’s Power To The People festival in Columbia, MD.
The Soundgarden drummer was joined once again by Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, with Morello of Rage Against The Machine and Robbie Mangano also taking part in the performance.
The group, introduced by Morello as the Suns Of Soundgarden, ran through three Soundgarden classics: “Loud Love,” “Outshined” and “Spoonman.”
Morello offered a tribute to the band’s legacy before bringing the musicians to the stage, specifically highlighting the influence of the late Chris Cornell and Soundgarden’s impact on generations of rock and metal musicians.
“Soundgarden redeemed hard rock and metal music by unapologetically embracing thunderous riffs and melding them with deep, dark, soul-searching poetry that opened the door for generations of artists who felt empowered to use their brains along with their musical brawn.”
He continued:
“They were a huge influence on many of the artists playing today. To celebrate Chris Cornell and Soundgarden, I’d like to introduce Matt Cameron, Mike McCready, Taylor Momsen, and Robbie Mangano, the Suns Of Soundgarden.”
The appearance marked another recent collaboration between Cameron, Momsen and McCready. The trio were also among the musicians who joined Soundgarden during the band’s NFL halftime performance in Seattle last month.
