Metallica’s controversial 1996 album Load — a bold stylistic departure that polarized fans with its bluesy rock leanings and aesthetic reinvention — is officially the next entry in the band’s ambitious remastered reissue campaign.
The newly remastered version of the 5x multi-platinum record will arrive on June 13th, 2025, across a wide variety of formats, including a sprawling Deluxe Box Set loaded with never-before-heard material and exclusive content.
“It’s no surprise what’s next in our series of reissued, remastered albums… you guessed it: Load is finally ready for you to check out! Pre-orders start now, and the full package will hit your doorsteps, record stores, and all your favorite digital outlets on Friday, June 13, 2025,” the band announced.
Load has been remastered by Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering, with oversight from Greg Fidelman, and will be available in the following formats:
- Standard 180g 2LP
- CD
- Cassette
- Digital (including Atmos Spatial Audio)
- 3CD Expanded Edition
- Deluxe Box Set
For the first time, the extended version of “The Outlaw Torn” — previously trimmed due to CD length restrictions in the ‘90s — will be available on the 2LP, 3CD Expanded, and digital Deluxe versions.
What’s Inside the Deluxe Box Set
This one-time pressing is an exhaustive archive of the Load era and includes:

- 4 DVDs: Showcasing behind-the-scenes footage, in-studio sessions, TV appearances, and the band’s visit to Tuktoyaktuk, Canada for the Polar Beach Party.
- Bonus memorabilia: A set of 14 Rorschach cards, Pushead patch, Lollapalooza 11×17 poster, Rolling Stone cover print, 5 guitar/bass picks, lyric sheets, 2 laminated tour passes, and a 128-page hardcover book filled with photos and firsthand stories from the Load era.
