Midwinter have unveiled a music video for their newest single “Champagne”, streaming as of February 4. The atmosphere metalcore group recently signed with Papercut Recordings, a label founded by Brand Of Sacrifice guitarist Michael Leo Valeri (also of Shibori Threads) and Fit For A King bassist/vocalist Ryan “Tuck” O’Leary (also of Beacon Management).
The video for “Champagne” was directed by Father Seaber, and the band shared insight into the track’s thematic and sonic elements:
“‘Champagne‘ is used as a metaphor to celebrate something that is actually hollow. It symbolizes escapism and temporary euphoria. At its core, the track explores abandonment and betrayal but are masked behind something generally associated with a celebration.
Sonically, we wanted to experiment with contrasting emotions. Similar to the lyrics, certain sections of the track emote feelings of beautiful nostalgia but soon give way to extreme and jarring textures. Blending these together creates a push-pull between optimistic reflection and the pain of loss.”
Midwinter will support the release of “Champagne” with a North American tour alongside Unprocessed and Allt, beginning in Mexico City and winding through major U.S. markets:
