Mike Patton brought a wave of nostalgia and surprises to the stage in Louisville, KY on April 10th, performing a mix of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle material during an AVTT/PTTN show alongside The Avett Brothers.
The performance took place at the Louisville Palace Theatre, where Patton’s collaborative project AVTT/PTTN — his Americana-leaning venture with The Avett Brothers — leaned heavily into his alternative metal legacy for a set that blurred genre lines in unexpected fashion.
One of the biggest moments of the night saw Patton dust off Mr. Bungle’s 1999 track “Retrovertigo”, marking yet another live revival of the song following its first performance in over two decades earlier this year. The track had previously resurfaced during a recent Mr. Bungle run, and even appeared with M. Shadows during a tour stop with Avenged Sevenfold.
AVTT/PTTN didn’t stop at Mr. Bungle material either. The set also featured Faith No More staples including “Ashes To Ashes” and “Digging The Grave,” alongside a rendition of “Easy” by the Commodores — a song Faith No More famously covered in their own catalog.
The result was a set that pulled directly from multiple eras of Patton’s career, reworking his own legacy through a new collaborative lens with The Avett Brothers, while also nodding to the broader influences that shaped Faith No More’s genre-defying identity.
Fan-filmed footage from the Louisville performance has begun circulating online, capturing the unexpected fusion of alt-metal, experimental rock, and Americana.
While AVTT/PTTN continue their current run of dates, speculation also lingers around the future of Faith No More, which has remained inactive in recent years. Recent comments from Patton have suggested the band may once again be on indefinite hiatus.
