Los Angeles hardcore punk band Militarie Gun have announced their new album God Save The Gun, set for release on October 17th via Loma Vista Recordings. Alongside the album reveal, the band shared a video for the lead single “B A D I D E A”, directed by vocalist Ian Shelton.
Speaking on directing the video, Shelton said:
“I wanted to make a video that was a celebration of vices, a new iteration of yourself looking back at a moment you made a mistake while never truly reflecting. This was the most technically challenging video we’ve ever done and it only fits a song spelling out the words ‘bad idea.’”

Produced and engineered by Riley MacIntye (known for work with Adele and Arlo Parks), God Save The Gun digs deep into themes of vulnerability, self-destruction, and self-belief. The official press release explains:
“God Save The Gun is a very human document of being at your worst when you should be on top of the world – an absurdist guide to the intersection of self-destruction and self-belief. ‘I’m well aware that being this vulnerable turns my personal trauma into a marketing hook for this album,’ Shelton says. ‘But I’m fine with it, if not provoking it. Over the past couple years, as I spoke about addiction from the perspective of someone affected by it, I became the one struggling with it. There’s a farcical logic to entering a situation, fully knowing the consequences, and doing it anyway – but that’s where my head was when I started leaning on drinking.’”
Following their 2023 debut Life Under The Gun, which focused on cycles of hurt and addiction in Shelton’s family, this new album sees him stepping into the spotlight as the protagonist. Shelton realized he needed to hear the album’s message himself as the band prepared to enter the studio in early 2025.
