Neurosis have shared a heartfelt message of appreciation after the overwhelming fan response to their surprise comeback album An Undying Love For A Burning World, which arrived without prior announcement on March 20th.
The influential post-metal pioneers returned after several years of public silence, simultaneously introducing Aaron Turner (SUMAC, former Isis) as a new member of the band. Turner steps into the lineup following the 2022 exit of vocalist and guitarist Scott Kelly, whose departure came after personal misconduct admissions that placed the band on indefinite hiatus.
Following the album’s release, fans widely described the new material as emotionally powerful and restorative — a reaction the band says has deeply affected them. In a statement shared on March 29th, Neurosis expressed gratitude for the reception and reflected on the connection formed between the group and listeners.
“We want to offer you all our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude. We are quite overwhelmed and more than humbled. Never in our wildest imagination could we have foreseen that our return and new album would have such a deep resonance and emotional impact.”
The band explained that their creative philosophy has always centered on making music for personal expression rather than expectation, but the response to the new record revealed something larger at play.
“We have always tried to hold to an artistic ethos of ‘give everything, expect nothing’ and have always made this music for ourselves, making the music we need to make at any given moment.”
According to the group, the fan reaction created what they described as a shared emotional exchange rarely seen online, reinforcing the communal power of music.
“By referring to our new music as a gift, you have given us a gift. By telling us that it lifted you up, you have lifted us up. By telling us that it has given you hope, you have given us hope.”
They also acknowledged the warm reception given to Turner, stating that fan support affirmed their belief that he belongs in the band’s next chapter.
“By giving our new family member such a warm welcome and unparalleled acceptance you have validated our feeling that he is meant to be here.”
Closing the statement, the band emphasized that the emotional resonance surrounding the album belongs equally to listeners and artists alike.
“We are all in this moment together and we are all fortunate to have these emotionally purifying outlets that bring us together and give us the strength to keep going. Thank you.”
The unexpected release of An Undying Love For A Burning World marks Neurosis’ first new material since their hiatus and signals a renewed era for the long-running experimental metal collective.
