New Idea Society (Cave In, Wild Arrows) have shared a special in-studio performance of their track “Lantern,” bringing together members of Converge, Cave In, and Old Man Gloom for a one-off collaboration filmed at GodCity Studio.
The session saw Kurt Ballou (Converge) and Adam McGrath (Cave In) join the band in-studio, while Old Man Gloom drummer Santos Montano handled percussion duties for the performance.
Recorded at Ballou’s own GodCity Studio, the collaboration brings together longtime friends and frequent collaborators across the heavy music scene rather than forming a traditional supergroup.
New Idea Society shared details of the session:
“Hey everyone! We stopped by @godcitymusic a few weeks ago and invited Kurt Ballou and @adamcmcgrath to join us for a live version of ‘Lantern.’ Turns out when we get together with @oldmangloomband on drums we can’t help but get loud!
Full band shows (minus Kurt and Adam) start July 9th in Brooklyn, then July 10th in Providence, July 11th in Malden and July 12th in Philadelphia!
Kurt has been an important contributor to NIS since the beginning – often fielding phone calls when we didn’t know how to use the recording gear, and playing some drums/guitar on the first two albums, so it was great to get him in on this.

Recorded live at God City by Zach Weeks on June 8th, 2026. Filmed by Jay Zucco. Mixed and Mastered by Andy LeMaster at The Civil Defense.”
The performance arrives following the release of New Idea Society’s latest album ‘Fire On The Hill’, which arrived earlier this year via Relapse Records.
