British Politician Nigel Farage Duped Into Recording Cameo Tribute To Disgraced Lostprophets Vocalist

British politician Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, has found himself at the center of controversy after being tricked into recording a Cameo video tribute that referenced the late Lostprophets vocalist Ian Watkins.

Despite Watkins’ widely documented and horrific child sex abuse convictions — which led to a lengthy prison sentence and his eventual death in custody in October 2025 — Farage appeared unaware of the context behind the request when recording the paid video.

According to a report from Metro, an individual claimed to have paid £98 for the Cameo, submitting the request under the premise that the message was intended for a fictional individual named Ian Watkins. The prankster later suggested their motivation was at least partly political, questioning Farage’s willingness to accept the payment and proceed with the video despite what they viewed as obvious warning signs.

The script Farage read during the recording included language praising “Ian Watkins” as a “good man” and made references to him loving his children — statements that, given the real Watkins’ crimes, rendered the video deeply disturbing once the ruse became clear.

Watkins had previously referred to his own crimes using flippant language in correspondence with fans, further intensifying public backlash toward any perceived tribute.

When confronted with the situation, Farage reportedly responded dismissively. Speaking via Metro, he stated:

“Thank him for the money. There are lots of Ian Watkins. Tell him to send more. I did alter his request.”

The incident has since sparked renewed criticism surrounding Cameo’s moderation practices and the responsibility of public figures to vet requests — particularly when dealing with names linked to infamous criminal cases.
