Philadelphia shoegaze outfit Nothing have officially announced their fifth studio album, “A Short History Of Decay,” which is set for release on February 27th via Run For Cover Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled a new single, “Cannibal World,” complete with a music video directed by Ben Ditto.
The upcoming record introduces guitarist/vocalist Cam Smith (Ladder To God, Cloakroom) as the newest member of the group. Frontman Domenic “Nicky” Palermo co-produced the album alongside Nicholas Basset (Whirr), describing the release as “a final chapter” in the story that began with “Guilty Of Everything.”
Palermo uses “A Short History Of Decay” to confront personal demons, touching on themes of aging, trauma, and reflection. The vocalist also revealed he’s been dealing with essential tremors, a neurological condition that has worsened with time. “It’s another thing that just makes you think, ‘my body’s in a decline right now.’ Things are starting to fall apart,” he admitted.
He further explained that the record explores parts of his past he had long avoided. “I’m writing about things that I’ve never really talked about before. Things I’ve always been scared to write about.”
