Longstanding metal label Nuclear Blast Records has officially announced plans to depart from X (formerly Twitter), where they’ve amassed over 213,000 followers. The news broke on June 12th, with the label stating that their account will be deactivated within 48 hours.
While no specific reason was given for the decision, the departure mirrors a growing trend among artists, creatives, and companies stepping away from the platform. Many cite concerns over the platform’s direction under billionaire owner Elon Musk, including an alleged uptick in hate speech, weakened moderation, and increasingly controversial policy decisions. Some exits have also been tied to broader political concerns, citing Musk’s perceived alignment with certain U.S. political figures and administrations.
Others, like Slash of Guns N’ Roses, have cited security concerns after repeated hacking incidents. Slash quit X in April 2025 following ongoing account compromises.
The exit hasn’t come without debate, especially given Nuclear Blast’s own polarizing decisions in recent years. The label previously drew criticism for signing acts like As I Lay Dying, whose vocalist Tim Lambesis was convicted in a 2014 murder-for-hire plot, and Marilyn Manson, who has faced multiple allegations of abuse and misconduct. Both signings reignited conversations about accountability within the metal community.
Nuclear Blast’s announcement was simple and to the point, noting they’ll continue engaging with fans on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Facebook, YouTube, and Spotify.
