Omnium Gatherum vocalist Jukka Pelkonen has revealed that he has been diagnosed with lymphoma and will be stepping away from the band’s upcoming live commitments to focus on his health.
The Finnish melodic death metal outfit shared the news today (February 02), confirming that Pelkonen will be unable to take part in their forthcoming European tour while undergoing treatment. Despite the setback, the band has opted to move forward with the tour as planned, enlisting a familiar and experienced replacement.
Filling in on vocals for the live dates will be Henry Hämäläinen, known for his work with Shade Empire and Halysis. The decision was made following discussions within the band, with Pelkonen personally endorsing the choice.
In a statement shared on the band’s social media, Pelkonen explained his situation and the reasoning behind the lineup change:
“I have to inform you I won’t be able to participate on the upcoming European tour. This is because I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma, and this serious situation requires my full attention.”
Reassuring fans, he added that the band will continue on without interruption:
“OG is a train which is not easily stopped. After careful dialogue with my brothers in OG, we decided to ask a talented individual to join the tour. He is Henry Hämäläinen — an experienced singer and frontman.”
Hämäläinen also shared a message expressing both sympathy and appreciation for the opportunity:
“While I’m truly saddened by Jukka having to step away from this tour, I’m extremely honored to be called upon in the band’s time of need. The trust shown by the whole band — and especially Jukka himself — means a lot to me.”
While Pelkonen’s diagnosis marks a difficult moment for the band, Omnium Gatherum confirmed that all scheduled tour dates will proceed, with the group emphasizing that the spirit of the band remains strong as they head out on the road.
