Orbit Culture have unveiled a new version of “The Path I Walk” featuring acclaimed cellist Tina Guo, giving the closing track from their latest album ‘Death Above Life’ a new dimension.
The reworked track arrives ahead of the deluxe edition of ‘Death Above Life’, which is due October 9 and features additional material from the Swedish groove metal outfit. The song’s new arrangement also comes with a music video directed by Riivata Visuals, who have previously worked with thrown and Humanity’s Last Breath.
Orbit Culture said the collaboration was something they had wanted to pursue for years, despite initially being hesitant about bringing another artist into their music.
“We’ve always been a bit uneasy about bringing someone else into our music, but Tina Guo was the exception.”
The band first saw Guo perform in Stockholm in 2017 and eventually began joking about the possibility of working together. When their label suggested bringing in a guest musician for “The Path I Walk,” Guo was the first name Orbit Culture put forward.
The band initially built her parts using MIDI and samples from Guo’s own library, but said hearing her perform the material herself ultimately transformed the track.
“The emotion she brought completely changed the song and took it further than we’d imagined.”
Orbit Culture also praised Guo’s personality throughout the collaboration, saying they were struck by how approachable she was despite her extensive experience and reputation as a musician.
The band will spend much of the coming months on the road, including a European run with Amon Amarth and Soilwork before joining Trivium, In Flames and Frozen Soul in North America.
