Helmet vocalist and guitarist Page Hamilton is nearing completion of his long-awaited debut solo album, with the influential musician revealing that the project is already well underway.
During a recent interview with Rocking With Jam Man, Hamilton provided an update on his upcoming solo material, as well as several other projects currently in development. According to Hamilton, the album is approximately 70% complete and will feature contributions from several notable musicians.
“I am 70% done with my first solo album. I’m gonna re-release my ‘Movie Music Vol. 1’ — Nile Rodgers’s label that put it out went under, and my label, who I love, Edel/earMUSIC in Hamburg, is gonna release it hopefully before the end of the year. And then I’ll finish the solo album.”
Hamilton revealed that the upcoming record will include performances from longtime collaborators and acclaimed musicians, including John Tempesta of The Cult, White Zombie, and Rob Zombie. Tempesta, who previously played drums for Helmet, contributed to five tracks on the new album.
“I had John Tempesta, my dear friend from The Cult, White Zombie, Rob Zombie, who used to play in Helmet, he played on five tracks.”
The project will also feature drummer Matt Flynn, best known for his work with Maroon 5, with Hamilton praising Flynn’s abilities behind the kit and as a songwriter.
“He’s a phenomenal drummer, and they don’t utilize his songwriting ability in Maroon 5 on their albums, but when you watch him live, he’s a powerhouse. And he’s gonna play on some songs.”
Hamilton also discussed his hopes of bringing in bassist Pancho Tomaselli, who has performed with War and PHILM, the project featuring drummer Dave Lombardo.
“I’m trying to get my friend Pancho Tomaselli, the bassist, he used to be in War. He had a great band with Dave Lombardo called PHILM, a really, really cool band. We did a track together in his Officer Lucifer project, but he’s a fucking bass genius.”
Alongside his solo album, Hamilton is also preparing a re-release of ‘Movie Music Vol. 1’, which was originally released through a label operated by legendary producer and musician Nile Rodgers. Hamilton expects the new edition through Edel/earMUSIC to arrive before the end of the year.
The musician also revealed that he has signed a one-album jazz deal with Edel, though that project is still in its early stages and is not expected until 2028.
“And then I signed a one-album jazz deal with Edel as well. And that’s a work in progress, so that won’t be till 2028, assuming I live that long.”
As for Helmet, Hamilton admitted that the band’s future plans remain uncertain while he focuses on his other musical ventures.
“Helmet, I don’t know right now. I don’t know if we’ll do a new album for a while ’cause I’m kind of focusing on these other things.”
While fans may have to wait longer for new material from Helmet, Hamilton’s upcoming solo album and additional projects will keep him busy as he continues exploring different styles and collaborations beyond the band’s signature alternative metal sound.
