Papa Roach Share Their Picks For The Greatest Nü-Metal Song Of All Time

As one of the most commercially successful bands to emerge from the early-2000s nü-metal boom, Papa Roach know a thing or two about defining moments within the genre. In a newly released video, the band’s members each revealed their personal selections for the greatest nü-metal song of all time.

Of course, Papa Roach themselves helped shape the movement with their breakout hit “Last Resort,” the six-times platinum single that propelled the California band to mainstream success in 2001. The track continues to resonate with listeners decades later, even surpassing one billion streams on Spotify in October 2023.

Frontman Jacoby Shaddix acknowledged his personal bias before naming another iconic entry from the era:

“I’d be biased and say ‘Last Resort’ by Papa Roach, but I’ll give it to Limp Bizkit ‘Break Stuff.’”

Bassist Tobin Esperance instead pointed to an early cornerstone of the genre, selecting “Blind” by Korn, explaining:

“The first time I heard that opening intro to ‘Blind’ I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, this is something that I haven’t heard before.’”

Drummer Tony Palermo chose “My Own Summer (Shove It)” from Deftones’ sophomore album ‘Around The Fur’, while acknowledging the ongoing debate surrounding the band’s association with nü-metal:

“I know Deftones don’t like to be coined as nü-metal, but ‘Shove It’ is up there.”

Meanwhile, guitarist Jerry Horton stayed loyal to home turf, confidently naming Papa Roach’s own “Last Resort” as his definitive pick.
