There’s been a shake-up behind the kit in the world of British gothic metal stalwarts Paradise Lost. The band have officially announced the departure of drummer Guido Zima, who first joined the fold in March 2023. Zima’s ties to the band extended beyond the stage, having previously performed alongside guitarist/keyboardist Gregor Mackintosh in the death-doom outfit Strigoi.
A statement issued by the band earlier this week reads:
“We’ve made the difficult creative decision to part ways with our drummer, Guido Zima. We thank Guido for his contributions to the band and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
We appreciate your continued support and understanding, and we’re looking forward to the next chapter with the band.”
That next chapter has already begun, with the band welcoming back longtime collaborator Jeff Singer. Singer previously manned the drums for Paradise Lost between 2004 and 2008 and has more recently lent his talents to fellow doom legends My Dying Bride. His return appears to be a natural fit for all involved.
The band confirmed the news overnight, stating:
“Paradise Lost welcomes back Jeff Singer on drums.”
Singer also shared his excitement:
“And the planets aligned
When I got a call asking if I would drum for Paradise Lost again it was clear the time was right and we could actually make this happen. Nothing could make me prouder. Firstly, the band, management and fans have always made me feel part of the family and secondly, as a fan of the band, it is a dream and something I have thought about a lot over the years. Paradise Lost are in my blood. I can’t wait and am so excited to get out there with the lads playing the songs I love and meeting our amazing loyal fans again.”
No word yet on when fans can expect to see Singer back on stage with the group, but based on this reunion, the next era of Paradise Lost looks set to hit the ground running.
