PENTAGRAM Cancel Upcoming Australia & New Zealand Tour Amid Ongoing Allegations

American doom metal legends Pentagram have officially cancelled their upcoming Australia and New Zealand tour, which was scheduled to kick off this August. The run would have marked the band’s long-awaited debut in the region, with shows planned for Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Wellington, Christchurch, and Auckland.

Promoters Hardline Media issued a statement regarding the cancellation, citing recent allegations as the reason for the tour being placed on hold:

“Due to the current allegations surrounding the Pentagram Australian/New Zealand tour – Hardline Media have decided to put this tour on hiatus. To be clear, no VISAs have been granted, as has been stated previously by other media. No venues or any staff hitherto are party to these allegations.

With great respect, we appreciate your patience and understanding while we manage this situation.

All ticket holders will be contacted directly, as information becomes available.”

Alongside Candlemass, Saint Vitus, and Trouble, Pentagram are often recognized as one of the “big four” of doom metal. Frontman Bobby Liebling, sometimes dubbed the “American Ozzy,” has become a viral figure in recent years, albeit for more than just his music.

The band’s history has been marred by controversy. In 2017, Liebling was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and physical abuse of a vulnerable adult—his then 87-year-old mother. He later pleaded guilty to abuse and neglect charges, serving 18 months in detention followed by three years probation.

At the time, Pentagram announced they would continue touring without Liebling, citing “circumstances beyond anyone’s control, a direct result of Bobby Liebling’s personal actions.” Additionally, past support acts including Wax Idols and King Woman previously dropped off bills with the band, citing inappropriate conduct and comments from Liebling.
