Colombian crossover act Poison The Preacher have released a new music video for their latest single “Chicken Out,” while also confirming details of their upcoming EP ‘Things I Want’, set for release on July 17 via Seek And Strike.
The track serves as the lead single from the project, which was mixed and mastered by Charles Toshio (Sunami, SPY). The release marks the next step in the band’s evolving blend of hardcore, metal, and crossover influences.
Speaking about the new material, vocalist and guitarist Juan Pablo Carrera described the EP as a natural progression following their debut album Vs The World, while also highlighting a more refined and aggressive direction for the band.
“We started working on these songs as soon as we finished writing our debut album, Vs The World, and these songs just came naturally to us. That being said, they really differ from the LP, as the song-writing and overall sound is an evolution for us.”
He added that the EP represents a more defined version of the band’s sound.
“This new EP is easily the next step for us, a real evolution towards a more definitive and unique sound. It’s something that’s more refined, aggressive, harder and heavier.”
Carrera also explained that the record draws from a wider range of influences, reflecting a more complete version of their identity as a band.
“We are pulling inspiration from all over the place and this is in fact a more accurate representation of all of our influences.”
Lyrically, “Chicken Out” focuses on personal regret tied to a past relationship, with Carrera describing the track as the most personal song he has written to date.
“I was so afraid of falling in love and felt that I wasn’t good enough for her. I felt that she would eventually get bored of me and dump me… I was so afraid of being hurt that I didn’t want to get involved emotionally and ultimately that was the mistake that ruined everything.”
He said the song reflects on missed chances and the importance of taking risks in life.
“It’s better to try than to live with the regret of not trying.”
Carrera also emphasized the band’s broader creative philosophy, describing their sound as a blend of hardcore energy and metal intensity designed for high-impact live performances.
Looking ahead, ‘Things I Want’ will continue to explore themes of ambition, pressure, and broken expectations, inspired in part by Japanese Daruma symbolism featured in the EP’s artwork.
The band will support the release with extensive touring, including a summer European run, as well as appearances at major festivals including Obscene Extreme Fest and Wacken Open Air — marking a milestone moment as the first Colombian band directly booked for both events.
