Australian progressive metalcore outfit Polaris have returned with their first new music since the 2023 death of guitarist Ryan Siew, releasing the deeply personal new track “Without You.”
The song serves as a direct tribute to Siew, who died in June 2023 at the age of 26. Polaris had spent the past week teasing the track across their social media channels before officially unveiling it today.
A music video for “Without You” was produced with Third Eye Visuals, accompanying the song’s release and marking a significant new chapter for the band as they continue to process Siew’s passing.
In a statement accompanying the track, Polaris opened up about the difficult process of creating a song centered on their grief:
“Never did we imagine that we would one day have reason to write this song. But three years on, we find ourselves still making sense of this immeasurable tragedy, and what it has meant to be left in the wake.”
The band continued:
“This is the sound of crushing loss, shock, grief and heartache, and the beginning of us learning how to share that with the world.”
“Without You” represents the first new Polaris material since Siew’s death, making its arrival an especially significant moment for the band’s members and longtime fans.
The guitarist’s death came during a pivotal period for Polaris, who had released their third studio album, “Fatalism,” less than a year earlier in 2023. Siew had been a member of the band since its early years and was an integral part of its evolution.
