Primus Launch ‘Primus Interstellar Drum Derby’ Web Series, Featuring Audition Process for New Drummer

Alternative metal icons Primus have unveiled a web series chronicling their search for a new drummer after the departure of Tim “Herb” Alexander. The band opened up auditions, receiving over 6,000 applications, and the series highlights those who made it to the final live audition stage.

Among the talented musicians who tried out were Rory Dolan (lespecial), Thomas Pridgen (Fever 333, ex-The Mars Volta), Mike Stone, Stan Bicknell, Sam Groverman (Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio), Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power, Snarky Puppy), Gergo Borlai, and Thomas Lang (stOrk).

The series also features appearances from big names like Maynard James Keenan (Tool), Danny Carey (Tool), and Stewart Copeland (Oysterhead). In the end, John Hoffman was chosen for the role.

The web series kicks off with Rory Dolan and will continue with Danny Carey during Primus‘s March 8th performance at Tool Live In The Sand in Punta Cana, DOM. Following the auditions, Primus will embark on their first tour with Hoffman behind the kit, celebrating Keenan‘s 60th birthday, with members of Primus, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer rotating throughout the night.
