Newly released, professionally shot footage captures Post Malone performing alongside the surviving members of Nirvana‘s classic-era lineup. The multi-diamond-certified rapper, country artist, and actor joined Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear for a special performance as part of last weekend’s 50th-anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live.
Together, they tore through Nirvana‘s diamond-certified 1991 breakthrough hit, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Malone‘s admiration for Nirvana has been well-documented, most notably in 2020 when he fronted a Nirvana tribute band featuring Travis Barker (Blink-182) for a livestreamed charity set that raised millions for COVID-19 relief. That performance even earned praise from Nirvana themselves.
In what appears to be a timely move, that 2020 benefit set is set to be released on vinyl this Record Store Day (April 12th) under the title “Post Malone Tribute To Nirvana“.
