Saliva are paying tribute to their late friend Sam Rivers with a newly released music video for “Rivers,” a song written in memory of the longtime Limp Bizkit bassist. The video arrives on October 18, marking the first anniversary of Rivers’ death at age 48.
The track appears on Saliva’s latest album, ‘Breaking Through,’ which arrived in August. The song reflects the lasting impact Rivers had on the people around him, both personally and professionally, and now has a dedicated visual directed by Gray Taylors.
The connection between Rivers and Saliva vocalist Bobby Amaru stretched back several years. The two musicians launched the project SLEEPKILLERS together in 2019, while Rivers also helped bring Burn Season to life, another band featuring Amaru alongside current Saliva bassist and vocalist Brad Stewart.
Amaru shared the personal meaning behind the song and the metaphor at its center:
“‘Rivers’ was written in honor of my late friend Sam Rivers, who passed away last October. He was a huge inspiration to me, and someone who helped shape my path very early in my career.
“When I sat down to write this song, I kept coming back to the idea that rivers never truly die; they just keep rolling on. To me, that felt like the perfect metaphor for a life well lived. This song is my way of honoring him, and reminding people that while we may lose someone physically, the legacy they leave behind keeps moving forward, just like a river.”
With “Rivers,” Saliva are commemorating a musician whose influence extended beyond the stage, celebrating the friendship and enduring legacy Rivers left behind.
