SCALP Channel Slipknot’s ‘Iowa’ and Hardcore Fury on ‘Not Worthy Of Human Compassion’

Californian deathgrind/hardcore force SCALP will unleash their third album, Not Worthy Of Human Compassion, on July 25th through Closed Casket Activities.

Described as a fierce dose of West Coast death violence, the band’s new single “Conspiracy” arrives with an intense music video that captures their unrelenting energy and chaotic sound. You can check that out below.

The 13-track effort stays true to grindcore’s brevity, clocking in at under 20 minutes in total. Despite the short runtime, Not Worthy Of Human Compassion dives into dark and complex lyrical territory. The record draws heavy influence from the 2007 psychological book The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil by Philip Zimbardo.

On the new single, the band shared:

“Punishing out the gates with a frightening depiction of paranoid delusion, the song showcases our challenge to make a faster sound while still delivering heavy mosh riffs.”

Guitarist/vocalist Devan Fuentes added:

“We took a handful of riffs and made them our own from albums like Slipknot’s ‘Iowa’ or Nirvana’s ‘In Utero’. I think that there are so many influences that manifested in ways that we weren’t aware of until going back to analyze what we’ve done.

For instance, ‘Conspiracy’ has a lead part that uses a wah pedal. So even though the record is by definition probably a hardcore / grindcore LP with plenty of breakdowns, it’s clear that we’ve been influenced by stuff like doom metal and powerviolence along the way.”
