Scott Stapp on New CREED Music: “When We Decide to Make a Record… It’ll Be Better Than Anything We’ve Ever Done”

In a recent interview with ‘Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown’ on Detroit’s WRIF, Scott Stapp opened up about the future of Creed, the chemistry fueling their reunion, and whether fans can expect new music from the multiplatinum rock giants.

When asked if there had been talks of working on fresh material, Stapp shared:

“We’re talking about it. We’re taking things slow. We’re rebuilding, we’re relearning about each other. We’re reconnecting. I think this experience has been kind of like a — it’s putting on an old glove, but we’ve all changed… I think that when that day comes when we decide to make a CREED record, I think it’ll be probably, if not on par, better than anything we’ve ever done.”

Creed‘s reunion officially kicked off in 2023 after more than a decade away, starting with the sold-out Summer Of ‘99 cruise and extending into a massive run of North American arena dates on the “Are You Ready?” tour alongside 3 Doors Down, Finger Eleven, and Mammoth WVH. According to Stapp, the energy on stage was undeniable:

“There was just so much energy and connection between the band guys. We were having a good time, and I hope the audience saw it… We’re soaking it all in… there’s a new level of appreciation for those moments… It’s a dream come true, and we don’t take a moment of it for granted.”

The band’s momentum hasn’t just come from nostalgia. In May 2024, the Greatest Hits vinyl reissue pushed Creed back onto the charts, reigniting interest in their catalog. Their presence has also surged in pop culture, with “Higher” becoming a viral anthem behind the Texas Rangers’ World Series win and appearing in campaigns for both Paramount+ during the Super Bowl and NASCAR’s Daytona 500.

Stapp reflected on how the reunion discussions began organically around 2020 as the band started gaining unexpected traction online:

“There was a time that I didn’t think that things would come together… we started to notice this kind of viral thing happening organically online… I just felt at the time — I didn’t wanna rush it… I wanted it to be real… And then when we got together and started rehearsing, the energy within the band — there was so much love in the room, so much support in the room.”

With over 53 million albums sold worldwide, Creed‘s rise to arena status was rapid. As Stapp described, that fast ascent came at a cost:

“The rise to arenas was, like, 12 months… I think when it happens like that, you miss out on what paying your dues does to you in terms of your level of appreciation… So we had it all and then went back and paid our dues in reverse… and here we are all these years later bigger than we were when we went away in 2004.”

During Creed‘s downtime, Stapp pushed forward with his solo career—often uncertain if it was the right path:

“I was out there slugging it away… wondering, ‘Should I continue?’ I love playing music… But I just kept at it… and here we are with ‘Higher Power’ breaking the Top 10 and now ‘Black Butterfly’ Top 5… It’s really been just a complete full-circle experience.”

Perhaps most meaningful for Stapp is seeing a new generation discovering Creed:

“To see a whole new generation that never saw a CREED show — most of them weren’t even born when we broke up… I think over 80 percent of our tickets sold… were between [ages] 18 [and] 35. We have a whole new generation of fans… I wanna do it right… and leave a legacy that they’re proud of… This is an opportunity to kind of end the movie the right way. But I still think the movie’s being written.”

Whether or not new music is on the immediate horizon, the passion and connection Creed has rediscovered is unmistakably real—and that energy is already fueling their next chapter.
