British metalcore outfit Shields have announced that they will be disbanding following their upcoming farewell performance at Sanctum Fest in Birmingham, UK.
The band, who originally went on hiatus in 2018 following the tragic passing of guitarist George Christie, returned to action in 2024 and eventually released their comeback album, Death & Connection, in January 2026.
After reigniting the project and reconnecting with fans, Shields have now decided that their journey has reached its natural conclusion. The band will officially close out their run following their August 14 headlining set at Sanctum Fest.
In a statement shared on July 8, the group reflected on their return, their final chapter, and their gratitude toward everyone who supported the band throughout the years.
“Shields is a band that came to an abrupt end in 2018, for reasons many of you know.
In 2023, we decided to pick it up again and see how it felt.
We played shows, got excited, wrote and released an album that we are immensely proud of.
Since becoming more active again, our priorities have become clearer, and we feel we have fully expressed ourselves. We feel that we can leave Shields where it is now, on our own terms. We all have our own feelings about this band ending, but what is clear is that we all want the best for each other and will always remain close friends.”
The band also took time to thank drummer Alastair and bassist Krish, crediting them as important parts of the group’s return.
“A huge thank you to Alastair and Krish, our drummer and bassist. Two immensely talented guys who Shields would not have returned without!”
Before officially closing the chapter, Shields will perform one final show at Sanctum Fest on August 14. The band has promised a special set featuring a mix of material from across their career, including songs from Death & Connection and earlier releases.
“We have one final show left. We are headlining Sanctum Fest in Birmingham on 14 August.
We will be playing a mixture of new songs and old.
Last show. LFG.”
After more than a decade of music, heartbreak, a comeback, and one final record, Shields will leave their legacy behind on their own terms.
