Shiner are digging further into their archives with a freshly remastered version of “Two Black Eyes,” one of several rarities set to appear on the band’s forthcoming collection, ‘The Y Section.’
Due out October 9 through Spartan Records, ‘The Y Section’ will collect various B-sides, rarities and other material spanning the lengthy career of the post-hardcore outfit.
“Two Black Eyes” originally appeared as an addendum to DeSoto Records’ reissue of ‘Lula Divinia.’ The track was recorded in 1998 during the writing and demo sessions for ‘Starless,’ ultimately offering an early glimpse at the direction Shiner would take next.
The band explained the story behind the song and the title of the upcoming collection:
“Originally released as an addendum to DeSoto Records’ reissue of ‘Lula Divinia’, ‘Two Black Eyes’ was recorded in 1998 during the writing and demo sessions for ‘Starless.’ The song became something of a blueprint for where Shiner was headed next – big grooves, strange turns, and maybe one section too many.
In fact, that tendency to add the mysterious, probably unnecessary ‘Y Section’ is where the title of our forthcoming rarities collection comes from.”
Meanwhile, Shiner also have a deluxe edition of their latest album, ‘BELIEVEYOUME,’ in the works. The digital deluxe edition is scheduled for September 18 via Spartan Records and will add two bonus tracks that were previously exclusive to physical editions.
One of those tracks, “Captured By Death,” is now available to hear ahead of the deluxe release.
