French psych/noise rock trio SLIFT have dropped a lyric video for their new single “The Day Of Execution,” which also serves as an advance cut from their upcoming full‑length ‘Fantasia’. The album is due out on June 5 via Sub Pop, and this track sits alongside the previously released “A Storm Of Wings” as a key pillar of the record’s heavy, widescreen atmosphere.
Director Ben Amos Cooper helmed the lyric‑style visuals, which lean into the song’s hypnotic, procession‑like groove and the sense of inexorable motion that runs through the band’s latest work. In a short statement accompanying the single, SLIFT explore the thematic spine of the song and its place within the broader ‘Fantasia’ narrative:
“‘The Day Of Execution’ is about the effect of time passing on each and every one of us, and about memory loss. It portrays the nostalgia that creeps into us as time goes by. ‘Fantasia’ is such an ancient city that it no longer remembers itself, and this gradually alienates its inhabitants.”
The band’s next push beyond the album release is a stacked run of live shows across Europe and North America, including a major European/UK circuit and a series of U.S. dates later in the year.
