The Smashing Pumpkins Unveil ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ 30th Anniversary Tour During Livestreamed ‘Requiem’ Event

The Smashing Pumpkins used tonight’s surreal livestream event, Farewell To Zero: A Private Requiem With The Smashing Pumpkins, to officially reveal a massive new arena tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their landmark 1995 album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness.

Held at the American Legion Post 43 in Los Angeles on May 17, the hybrid performance blended live music with a theatrical memorial-style sendoff to the band’s iconic “Zero” persona popularized by frontman Billy Corgan during the band’s ‘90s peak.

The event mixed fictional eulogies, spoken tributes, and a live performance before culminating in the reveal of The Rats In A Cage Tour, a newly announced North American arena run honoring the multi-platinum double album and nearly four decades of the band’s catalog.

Among the biggest surprises of the night was the return of “Here Is No Why,” which was reportedly performed live for the first time since 1997.

The newly announced tour will begin September 30 in Columbus, Ohio and continue through November, wrapping with an appearance at Darker Waves in Huntington Beach, California.

Presales for Citi cardholders and Verizon Access members begin May 19 at 10 a.m. local time, followed by a Live Nation All Access presale on May 20. General ticket sales launch May 21.
