Former Snot and Sevendust guitarist Sonny Mayo is currently recovering after undergoing emergency triple bypass heart surgery, with a crowdfunding campaign now underway to support his recovery period.
The fundraiser, organized by Megan Wright, was launched to assist Mayo and his family as he continues to heal following the life-saving procedure.
“Our dear friend Sonny suffered a heart attack and had a life saving triple bypass surgery. Please support Lara and Sonny while he recovers over the next couple months. The first month home will be full time care taking for Lara and will be the highest risk for infections and sickness so bringing meals to them will support his recovery tremendously! If you can’t bring a meal please continue to cover them in prayer!”
Mayo has a history of heart-related health complications, having previously suffered two heart attacks in 2018. He was later diagnosed with genetic coronary artery disease and explored treatment options including allogeneic mesenchymal adult stem cell therapy. He officially stepped down from Snot in April 2025.
Outside of his band work, Mayo has also been involved with Rock To Recovery, a nonprofit organization founded by ex-(hed)p.e. guitarist Wesley Geer, which uses music as a therapeutic tool for individuals dealing with addiction, mental health struggles, injuries, and more.
The crowdfunding effort continues as Mayo focuses on recovery over the coming months.
