Sony, via The Orchard, has quietly laid off nearly all full-time staff at Metal Injection and MetalSucks, while also cutting full-time positions from the Blast Beat Network. According to a source familiar with the situation, Frank Godla is now the only full-time person left across the three properties, with each outlet reportedly relying on one freelance writer.
Metal Injection launched in 2003 by Frank Godla and Rob Pasbani, while MetalSucks was founded in 2006 by Matt Goldenberg and Ben Umanov. In 2022, Pasbani, Goldenberg, and Umanov sold their interests to The Orchard, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment.
Former Metal Injection editor Greg Kennelty confirmed the split in a post on social media:
“Hello! I have some terrible news. Metal Injection and I have gone our separate ways. after 13 years. If anyone has open positions (full -time, freelance, etc) hit me up!”
Former MetalSucks writer Andrew Martins, who wrote under the name Hesher Keenan, also confirmed the situation in the same comment thread:
“Just piggybacking on this to say MetalSucks and I are in the same boat. (Yes, I was Hesher Keenan. Howdy!)”
No official statement has been released by Sony/The Orchard, Metal Injection, MetalSucks, or Blast Beat Network at the time of writing. Some former contributors and ex-employees have already begun reacting publicly as the fallout from the cuts continues to unfold.

didn’t even know MetalSucks was still around. sucks they lost their jobs but Sony has always been cutthroat, or at least the industries they are involved with are. nothing of real value lost though, metal is covered better by independent entities nowadays (like your page)
