Crowdfunding Campaign Launched To Help Producer Steve Evetts Rebuild Studio Following Massive New Jersey Fire

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist acclaimed producer and mixer Steve Evetts after a devastating fire destroyed his Belleville, NJ recording studio earlier this month.

The blaze, which broke out on May 3rd, reportedly consumed multiple neighboring buildings as well, leaving widespread destruction throughout the surrounding block. Cleanup and demolition efforts are currently ongoing in the area.

Known for his extensive work across the hardcore, metalcore, emo, punk, and alternative music scenes, Evetts lost a lifetime of recording equipment, personal memorabilia, plaques, records, photographs, and studio materials in the fire. While insurance is expected to help cover part of the financial damage, supporters say the payout will still fall far short of the cost required to fully rebuild the studio space.

A statement shared alongside the fundraiser outlined the scale of the loss and Evetts’ impact on heavy music over the years:

“Steve Evetts is a legendary record producer, engineer, mixer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.”

The statement continued by highlighting some of the many artists Evetts has worked with throughout his career, including The Cure, The Wonder Years, Glassjaw, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Used, Every Time I Die, Senses Fail, New Found Glory, Snapcase, and The Misfits among many others.

Supporters behind the campaign explained that rebuilding a professional studio from scratch involves far more than simply replacing damaged equipment:

“While insurance will help cover the value of the lost gear, it won’t come close to covering the true cost of rebuilding a new studio space. The expenses of construction, setup, and treatment are significant.”

After spending years working in Los Angeles, Evetts relocated back to New Jersey in 2022 and had taken over the Belleville studio space, which itself carried a notable history tied to several influential rock and metal recordings.

Despite the devastating setback, Evetts is reportedly determined to rebuild and continue working within the music community that he has helped shape for decades.

The fundraiser organizers encouraged fans, musicians, and industry peers to contribute or help spread awareness:

“Every contribution, share, or support in any form, no matter the size, will make a difference.”
